Gold: 7 Year High, Will It Go Higher? (video, left), CNBC

CS Commentary: Good review of the history of gold and where it could go from here. We disagree that gold will now test its greatest high…we were somewhat wrong recently that gold would hit $1000 before it hit $1650, which it just hit Friday, but only briefly. The wild card has been the Coronavirus, and we noted in our prediction that if there was unanticipated volatility gold could go higher…as long as there is global uncertainty gold will be pushed higher by that and supply concerns. Medium term, we believe it will come back down and retest $1000. But we may be completely wrong. Our prediction is based on Trump being re-elected and the economy continuing to do well through 2025 or so. We do agree that Silver and the miners are the better place to be longer term. Bottom line: If you don’t own any gold, buy a little – but wait for pull backs before buying more.

Is Coronavirus Twenty Times More Deadlier Than The Flu? Cassidy Morrison, Washington Examiner

Coronavirus Epidemic Update #23 (video, left), MedCram

CS Coronavirus Update: As of today, 2/23/20, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) there is a ‘credible risk that the virus will turn into a global pandemic,’ but spread and number of cases, particularly in the US, is expected to be limited – though because of the spread and secrecy in China this is not certain. Global cases are 78,998+, and still rising, with current globally reported deaths around 2470+, though there are conflicting reports and actual cases and deaths may be much higher. It  is more deadly than the flu, but not as deadly as SARS, which was 10%. See this link for bi-daily updates. Part of the discrepancy of reported cases is China’s penchant for under-reporting, or in many cases, falsifying numbers. According to at least one report, China has more cases of Coronavirus than it did of SARS. SARS occurred in 2002-03. Any useful vaccine for the virus will not be ready for mass distribution for at least one year, though there is hope that two medicines already in use for HIV and Malaria might be effective now. Mortality rate presently estimated around 2.3%, though so far 12% of cases with outcome have resulted in death. But only 5% of all cases become critical, mostly in 60+ year olds with previously underlying medical conditions. Some experts believe the true infected rate may be as high as 100,000+ which would mean that many more people may have died. SARS mortality rate was 10%; but, flu has a much lower mortality rate of about .5% and kills many more people a year, so control of this virus is mandatory. Flu has already infected 19 million globally this season and killed approximately 10,000. There are likely more than the reported cases/deaths of Coronavirus in some Asian countries. The Coronavirus is not expected to peak in China until April/May. The danger of future spread at present is primarily to Developing Nations. The US State Department has advised against all travel to China. See more below.
